WHO WE ARE

Simon Ward / simon@talkingrugby.co.uk

Simon has steadfastly refused to follow obvious career paths, so his work in the world of rugby union follows 15 years in the West End as an actor, having worked with luminaries such as Sir Trevor Nunn.  He was invited into rugby union by Saracens and his hosting and broadcasting career quickly developed.  In 2004, he set up Talking Rugby with Andrew Titheridge.

His roles ‘on the mic’ now include TV commentary for Sky, ESPN & ITV – he will be calling the RWC 2011 out in New Zealand – radio work for talkSPORT and Sky News Radio amongst others, as well as announcing at events all over the world – he is the official voice at Twickenham.

Simon is the editor for the RFU podcast as well as working closely with many of our sponsors and clients on hosting specific events and campaigns.

Simon plays the piano(badly), cricket (even worse) and follows the Toronto Blue Jays!

Andrew Titheridge

Andrew (or ‘Tits’), alongside a few sponsors, was responsible for setting up the relationship between rugby union and commercial radio.

Andrew is a former player with Blackheath, Esher & Hampshire plus he also refereed to RFU A2 level.  In broadcasting, he has covered 3 Lions’ tours and 5 Rugby World Cups, including a ‘daily diary’ with Sir Clive Woodward in 2003 and coverage of England’s triumphant victory tour of London.

He has been a regular broadcaster on various stations including TalkSPORT, Capital Radio Group, BFBS, RTE Eire and many BBC stations.

Russell Hargreaves / russ@talkingrugby.co.uk

Often titled ‘the hardest working man in radio’, Russ has been in journalism since graduating from Cambridge in 1999. After a year working in print and radio in Australia and the USA, he returned to home shores where via a journalism post-grad at City University, he gained full-time employment from London-based ageny SportsMedia Broadcasting. It was here in 2001 that he began reporting on rugby.

From reporting for GCap Media (Classic FM, Capital Radio) on the Rugby World Cup and Six Nations to a spell as Head of Sport for IRN, Russ is never far from the airwaves. His work for Talking Rugby ensures he regularly features on TalkSPORT, LBC, BFBS, IRN, various BBC regional stations and RTE in Ireland.

When occasionally away from the microphone, Russ enjoys a fine New Zealand sauv blanc, a round of golf, watching most sports on the telly, as well as the arts and foreign travel. He’s also busy bankrupting himself by getting married.

Nick Heath / nick@talkingrugby.co.uk

Nick is Talking Rugby’s most recent associate bringing on board his social media expertise alongside a love of all things voice and sport.  Another of our former actors, Nick left the stage to pursue his dream of becoming a rugby commentator.

Following two years working on The Rugby Blog Podcast and having been accepted into the Rugby Union Writers’ Club, Nick initially joined the ranks as an extra interviewer before cutting his teeth reporting from Premiership matches.  He has conducted full live match commentaries for BBC Surrey and has since appeared on TalkSPORT, Radio Plymouth, LBC, BFBS and BBC regions.  He has announced at Twickenham, Welford Road, Franklin’s Gardens & Chelsea.

Nick is obsessed with dogs, DJs in his spare time and is very fond of Balham.
